To assess and enhance the user experience and usability of the Kenwood CookEasy+ kitchen machine, redesign and align it with Braun's design identity, with a focus on promoting healthy habits.
To identify the original product's pain points, these research steps were conducted with 7 participants:
Cognitive walkthrough
Heuristic evaluation
benchmarking and product reviews
Discovered issues ranging from intuitive usability to the cohesiveness of the machine-app ecosystem.
Transitioned insights into actionable statements that aimed at making CookEasy+ a product for healthy living, personalization, and intuitive interaction.
Several creative tools and methods were utilized including
free brainstorming
framing problem statement into "How to" questions
framing ideas into "What if" statements
Wireframing and paper prototyping
Low-fidelity prototyping and testing concepts with users, evaluating based on defined attributes.
Interactive digital mock-ups for user interfaces of both the machine interface and the app that I contributed to design in Figma.
Evaluation: Conducted usability studies with 6 participants and adjusted designs accordingly.
The physical prototype of the device's rotary knob stands out as the pinnacle of my contributions to the Braun CookEasy+ redesign project.
The knob's design was inspired by Braun's design principles, as outlined in their design book and product portfolio, and embraced the minimalist and practicality ethos of Dieter Rams.
This small yet transformative innovation significantly elevated the usability and user satisfaction of the CookEasy+. The intuitive and practical design of the rotary knob improved the overall device-interface interaction, making it more user-friendly and accessible.
